Usage Policy
Rules and guidelines for responsible use of Combily services
1. Overview
This Usage Policy ("Policy") supplements the Terms of Use and outlines what you may and may not do when using Combily's AI-powered services (the "Services"). All users — including those on free plans — are bound by this Policy.
Combily provides a value-added SaaS interface that routes your requests to third-party AI models via API Providers. While the underlying AI models are not owned or trained by us, we maintain responsibility for the use of our platform and enforce this Policy to prevent abuse and promote safety.
Guiding Principle: You may use Combily for any lawful purpose that does not harm others, violate applicable laws, or undermine the safety and integrity of the platform and its users.
2. Universal Rules
The following 14 rules apply to all use of the Services, including text, image, voice, video, and code generation. Violations may result in account suspension, termination, or legal action.
You must not use the Services in any manner that violates any applicable local, national, or international law or regulation. This includes (without limitation) laws relating to data privacy, intellectual property, consumer protection, anti-discrimination, child protection, and export controls.
Examples of unlawful or prohibited conduct include:
- Privacy and identity harm: doxxing, stalking, unauthorized access to systems, social engineering, or collecting personal data without a lawful basis or consent
- Impersonation and deception: presenting AI output as official statements from real people or institutions, or using the Services to create convincing fraudulent identities
- Child exploitation: any attempt to create, request, distribute, or facilitate child sexual abuse material (CSAM) or grooming content (we will report where legally required)
- Illegal goods/services: facilitating illegal drugs, weapons trafficking, or instructions that materially enable serious crimes
- Regulated activities: using the Services for regulated professional activities (e.g., legal/medical/financial) without meeting applicable licensing, disclosure, and compliance requirements
- Biometrics and surveillance: building facial recognition databases from scraped images, biometric categorization, or unlawful surveillance of individuals
You must not use the Services to build or operate fully autonomous systems that make consequential decisions about individuals without meaningful human oversight. This includes using AI Output as the sole or primary basis for decisions that affect a person's legal rights, safety, access to essential services, or economic opportunities.
Prohibited high-risk applications include:
- Automated legal judgments, sentencing, or law enforcement
- Autonomous weapons systems or military targeting
- Social scoring or surveillance of individuals
- Biometric identification, profiling, or monitoring of individuals without a lawful basis and appropriate safeguards
- Critical infrastructure control without human supervision (including road traffic management and the supply of water, gas, heating, or electricity)
- Automated hiring, credit scoring, or insurance decisions that operate without human review
- Eligibility decisions for housing, education, immigration, or government benefits without meaningful human review
- Education and vocational training decisions — including determining access to educational institutions, evaluating learning outcomes, or assessing student performance — without meaningful human oversight
- Employment and workforce management — including automated résumé screening, recruitment filtering, promotion decisions, or worker monitoring — without human review
- Migration, asylum, and border control management — including risk assessments, application processing, or document verification used as the sole basis for decisions affecting individuals
- Media, journalism, or professional publishing — including using the Services to autonomously generate content published for external consumption as authoritative reporting without human editorial review and appropriate AI-generated content disclosures
- Administration of justice and democratic processes — including automated judicial reasoning, case outcome prediction used to determine legal rights, or tools designed to influence electoral processes
In addition, you must not use the Services for prohibited or harmful AI practices, including:
- Using subliminal, manipulative, or deceptive techniques intended to materially distort a person's behaviour in a way that is likely to cause harm
- Exploiting vulnerabilities related to age, disability, or socio-economic circumstances in a way that is likely to cause harm
- Predicting an individual's likelihood of committing a crime based solely on profiling or personality traits
- Inferring a person's emotions in workplaces or educational settings, except where necessary for medical or safety reasons and permitted by law
- Biometric categorisation intended to infer sensitive attributes (e.g., race, political opinions, religion, sexual orientation)
- Untargeted scraping of facial images from the internet/CCTV to create or expand facial recognition databases
This rule is informed by widely recognised responsible AI risk principles (including concepts reflected in emerging AI regulation) and is intended to reduce the risk of real-world harm from misuse of AI Output.
You must not use the Services to promote, encourage, glorify, or provide instructions for self-harm, suicide, eating disorders, or any form of self-destructive behaviour. This includes generating content that trivialises or romanticises such topics.
You must not use the Services to generate content that threatens, incites, promotes, or glorifies violence, terrorism, or extremism against any person or group. This includes:
- Threats of physical harm or intimidation
- Instructions for creating weapons, explosives, or dangerous substances
- Recruitment or propaganda for terrorist or extremist organisations
- Content designed to instil fear, cause panic, or incite mass violence
You must not use the Services to generate content that promotes hatred, intolerance, or discrimination against individuals or groups based on race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, or any other protected characteristic. This includes harassment, slurs, dehumanising language, and stereotypes intended to demean.
You must not use the Services for fraudulent, deceptive, or malicious purposes, including:
- Phishing, social engineering, or impersonation schemes
- Creating or distributing malware, ransomware, spyware, or exploits
- Generating spam or deceptive marketing content
- Creating fake reviews, testimonials, or endorsements
- Financial fraud, pyramid schemes, or money laundering
- Identity theft or creating synthetic identities
You must not use the Services to deliberately create or spread false, misleading, or deceptive information, including:
- Fabricated news articles presented as genuine journalism
- Deepfake or synthetic media intended to deceive viewers about real events or individuals
- False claims about public health, medical treatments, or scientific consensus
- Conspiracy theories designed to undermine public trust in democratic institutions
You must not redistribute AI-generated Output from the Services in a manner that causes harm, deceives others, or violates the rights of third parties. Specifically:
- Do not redistribute Output as authoritative professional advice (medical, legal, financial) without appropriate disclaimers and human review
- Do not use Output to impersonate real individuals or create convincing fake profiles
- Do not present AI-generated content as original human-authored work in contexts where the distinction matters (academic submissions, journalistic reporting, expert testimony)
You must not use the Services to:
- Generate misleading political content intended to influence elections or democratic processes
- Create fake grassroots movements or astroturfing campaigns
- Impersonate political figures, government officials, or public institutions
- Generate mass-produced personalised political messaging designed to manipulate voter behaviour
AI-generated Output is not a substitute for professional advice. You must not use the Services as a replacement for qualified medical, legal, financial, engineering, or other professional consultation. If you choose to use Output in any professional context, you are solely responsible for verifying its accuracy and seeking appropriate expert guidance.
You must not use the Services to generate, distribute, or facilitate:
- Sexually explicit content involving minors (child sexual abuse material — CSAM) — this is illegal and will be reported to law enforcement authorities
- Non-consensual intimate imagery (real or synthetic) of any individual
- Content that sexualises or exploits children in any form
- Graphic sexual content unless explicitly permitted by the specific feature or service tier
When sharing or publishing AI-generated Output from the Services, you should clearly disclose that the content was generated with the assistance of AI. This is especially important in contexts where recipients may reasonably expect human authorship, such as journalism, academic writing, professional communications, or creative works published under your name.
The Services or underlying AI models may embed metadata, watermarks, or other identifiers in generated content. You must not intentionally remove, alter, or obscure these markers. Removing safety markers may violate applicable laws and will be treated as a violation of this Policy.
You must not attempt to circumvent, disable, or interfere with any safety, moderation, or usage controls implemented by Combily or the underlying AI providers. This includes:
- Prompt injection attacks or adversarial inputs designed to bypass content filters
- Jailbreaking attempts to override model safety instructions
- Exploiting system vulnerabilities to access restricted features
- Using automated tools to circumvent rate limits or usage quotas
- Coordinated misuse by multiple accounts acting in concert
3. Enforcement
We take violations of this Policy seriously and enforce it through a graduated response system.
Fair process: Where feasible, we will provide notice of the enforcement action, the policy basis for the decision, and how to appeal. In urgent cases (e.g., suspected illegal activity, immediate safety risk, or active abuse), we may take immediate action without prior notice.
3.1 Graduated Enforcement
Depending on the nature and severity of the violation, we may take one or more of the following actions:
- Warning: For first-time or minor infractions, we may issue a warning with guidance on how to comply
- Feature Restriction: We may temporarily restrict access to specific features (e.g., image generation, certain model types)
- Credit Deduction: We may deduct credits associated with abusive usage or promotional manipulation
- Account Suspension: We may temporarily suspend your account pending investigation of a reported or detected violation
- Account Termination: For serious or repeated violations, we may permanently terminate your account and access to the Services
- Legal Action: For violations that constitute criminal activity or cause significant harm, we may report the matter to relevant law enforcement authorities and pursue legal remedies
3.2 Detection Methods
We may detect violations through a combination of:
- User reports and community moderation
- Automated monitoring systems (e.g., rate limits, abuse and fraud signals)
- Automated prompt screening applied to certain requests (for example, blacklist checks and third-party moderation classifiers)
- Moderation and content filters applied by third-party AI providers
- Manual review by authorised personnel
3.3 Appeals
If you believe an enforcement action was taken in error, you may submit an appeal by emailing info@combily.com with the subject line "Enforcement Appeal". Include your account email and a description of the circumstances. We will review appeals within 10 business days and notify you of the outcome.
4. Reporting Violations
If you encounter content or behaviour on the Services that you believe violates this Usage Policy, please report it to us:
